The Living Nativity

On Friday, the children watched the living Nativity. As well as some fantastic Holme Grange actors, the stars of the show were also a real life donkey, sheep and some very funky camels.

A Visit From Pottery Pals

This week, the children really enjoyed a visit from Pottery Pals. They painted their own Christmas decoration and are really looking forward to seeing what their designs have turned out like, once they have been set.

Christingle

The children really enjoyed learning about advent and the exciting lead up to Christmas. Reverend Richard came in to talk to the children about the meaning of Christingle and the children then made their own.

Diwali- How do festivals use light?

This week, we were so lucky to have Mr Bhatti and his parents, come in to talk to the children about Diwali. The children were involved in acting out the story of Rama and Sita. They really enjoyed dressing up! Mrs Bhatti explained to the children about traditions which take place around Diwali and lots of the children made links to festivals which they know about, such as Bonfire night and Christmas. It was a wonderful morning!

Year 1 Remembrance Poppies

This week, the children have been creating poppies in remembrance of those who fought and helped in wars, both past and present. They used various mediums to create their poppies, such as tissue paper, paint and oil pastels. They had a lovely time creating their poppies and will be displayed outside the Year 1 classrooms to help us remember.

The Owls Practise Subtraction

This week, the children have been working really hard to learn subtraction in maths. They have used many different resources to help them and are now super at subtracting!

Rabbi Zvi comes to visit Year One.

Today we were lucky to welcome Rabbi Zvi into our school. The children enjoyed helping to reenact a story told by him and learning a song and dance!

Author visit

 

We had a fantastic visit from the author and illustrator, Simon Mirray, author of the ‘Icky Doo Dah’ series of books.

He taught us how to draw our own little monsters, whom we have been writing about today!
